Entombed - Clandestine

now for something a little bit diffreent...

This is Entombed's sophomore release which like their debut album "Left Hand Path" was also recorded at the renowned Sunlight Studios in Sockholm, Sweden and produced by Tomas Skogsberg.
The year 1991 had produced some of the decades most brutal Death Metal albums of all time ie...Grave "Into The Grave", Asphyx "The Rack", Unleashed "Where No Life Dwells" etc...and of course Entombed's "Clandestine" which by far is an outsatnding follow up release.
Like "Left Hand Path" the brutality and heaviness is still present, but on this album their seems to be a bit more melody in the songs and catchier riffs with more hooks that will keep you listening and wanting more which makes the replay value high on this album. Up to this album I was a huge Entombed fan, seems like Entombed kind of went disarray after this release heading more towards a rock sound that just wasn't the same. It's kind of hard to say which is better "Left Hand Path" or "Clandestine", of course I will always enjoy listening to both these albums, but I think that "Clandestine" is just a tiny bit better production and songwriting wise.
For those of you that haven't heard this album yet or even heard of it which i'm sure most of you have, you must go buy it or burn it off someone because this is pure Swedish Death Metal at its finest.

Insect Warfare World Extermination 2007

Just as the cover art of World Extermination brings to mind the early years of frenetic grindcore, the music found within the 22 tracks on Insect Warfare’s latest release is a no-frills assault on every bodily sense. There’s an old school feel to this one, but it has plenty of modern twists to keep it from sounding dated and a relic of the genre’s origins. Insect Warfare let loose with an all out barrage of grinding destruction in under 20 minutes.

Envy and Jesu Split (2008)

This is something I've been waiting for to come out. Envy are a japanese band blending post rock and ambient with screamo, used to be way more hardcore but they are still very good. Jesu is the alias for Justin Broadrick (Napalm Death, Godflesh), doing some electronic ambient-post rock.

Aldebaran - Dwellers In Twilight

After a 7” single and two split releases with Rue and Sod Hauler, the time has come for the first full length album of this Portland’s trio. ALDEBARAN play doom/sludge and all their previous works forced a lot people of the genre to notice them… “Dwellers In Twilight” includes three epic songs which balance between the traditional U.S. doom riffing and the nihilistic sludge core aesthetic. The band combines the classic slow doom metal sound with the sludge aggression in a very successful way and as a brilliant result of this the songs are not boring at all, no matter how long they last…On the other hand both three songs run over the listener with their supreme heaviness! The dual vocals add more brutality to the total evilness and blackened attitude-lyrics of the band.

Disfear - Live The Storm (2008)

In a pissed off mood? Need to just shut the world out for a few minutes? Do I have the music for you!
Disfear’s “Live The Storm” is a blend of metal, crust, hardcore, and punk all rolled into one! Featuring the lead singer of legendary metal act “At The Gates”, Disfear hails from Sweden and sound like a mix between “Discharge” and “Strapping Young Lad”.
I haven’t been able to stop listening to them.

Nashgul + World Downfall - Split

Asunder/Like Flies on Flesh Split LP

ASUNDER is a doom metal band from Oakland, CA that belt out thick, heavy, slow jams of monstrous proportions. This debut release features 2 songs of crushing thunderous doom, with sullen guitar hooks and gargantuan vocals… the shortest song at close to 9 minutes. Musically they're influenced by loads of European Doom acts such as MY DYING BRIDE, ANATHEMA, early CATHEDRAL and CANDLEMASS. Features current and ex-memebrs of GROUNDWORK, SKAVEN, and DYSTOPIA. LIKE FLIES ON FLESH (from Ft. Worth, TX) can best be described to the uninitiated, as an unholy union of, AT THE GATES, and "Killers Era" IRON MAIDEN. Dueling guitar hero war harmonies and chainsaw riffs abound. Vocals (male and female alike) alternate between sullen crooning and maniacal desperation. Well crafted songs punctuated with riff after riff of twisted melodies that will sear the flesh from your smoldering skull, and leave you weeping in a pool of your own meaningless. Whole packages is covered with beautiful original photos, lithographs and prints created by the bands and their friends. LP comes with two fold out posters.

Magrudergrind&Saity's Dawn - Humanity In Decline Split EP

Here's something more likely connected to what usually is posted on this blog. This is a split between two awesome bands some of you might know already. For those who dont, here's some lazy description: Magrudergrind hail from Washington DC and they play some sort of extremely fast thrash-violence. One guitar, no bass, raging vocals, fukken awesome. Sanitys Dawn are similar by gender, though their songs sometime remind more czech fastcore bands. They're german, which sucks, but they absolutely kick ass with over 18 years of carreer. This split is from '05 and its speed will blow your guts out.

Enjoy!

Colonna Infame Skinhead

Ok, this is some unusual post for me. Colonna Infame Skinhead is probably the best oi! band ever existing, and also one of the most particular. They were formed around 95 by a skinhead and three hardcore kids including Paolo Petraglia on voice, allmighty singer of Comrades, roman ThrashGrindHC a go go legends. The intention in forming the band, writes Paolo in an interview, was to revive angry street Oi! that back in the nineties was only in hands of RAC bands. I'm not a big fan of Oi!, but this band means a lot for me, they're angry, heavy and theyre music very often ends up in hardcore punk rather than Oi!. Every song is an anthem, good to listen to while biking. What im posting here is a discography, including some of the best Oi!Core riffs ever written. For everyone, even anti-oi lazy asses like some who post on this blog (uhmn....)
They broke up in 98 and reunited for two years in 99. Paolo, that also left Comrades back in 2001, owns s.o.a. records, one of the best places to get some good hardcore vinyls and CDs. Roberto', another ex-C.I.S. militant, runs a punk-hardcore-grind-thrash-trash-soul-funk record store in Rome, Hellnation, if you ever end up in Rome I assure you a visit there is more adviced than the coliseum.

But fuck gossips, less talk more rock, nah?

Gospel - The Moon Is a Dead World

Gospel was an amazing band from Brooklyn, NY. They played this very bizzare and psychedelic progressive rock with lots of hardcore and punk influences. During their short period of existence they released a split with The Kodan Armada and a full length called The Moon Is a Dead World in 2005 through punk label Level Plane Records. They announced a break up in late 2006. This might be one of my favorite albums, open your mind and give it a try.

GridLink - Amber Gray

I think it was Tom that posted an album by the great Discordance Axis (thanks man) so this one's dedicated to you: GridLink is a new grindcore band sharing a singer with DA, and they are selling their first new album now called Amber Gray in Hydra Head's webstore. They have a song in their myspace, couldn't find a link yet, would someone give a hand?

Cold War/Voetsek Split

here's a decent split (at least Voetsek is awesome) between some German band called Cold War and of course Voetsek. Not exactly the worst stuff, but I really enjoy the Voetsek side a lot more. Cold War does 5 songs, including a cover of "Cold War" by Siege. Voetsek does 3 new songs. Check it out.

Eaves - Höhenangst

Eaves were a melodic hardcore band with great screaming vocals from Aachen, Germany. They released a LP called Höhenangst, a demo tape and 2 splits with Atrox and Francis Brady before breaking up in late 2005. Members formed the band Trainwreck, which is really not as good. They have some crust and screamo influences, and in my opinion were one of the best europe had to offer so check this out.

Hellshock - Only The Dead Know The End Of War

Fuck, was 'bout sometime I wasn't listening to this record, till few days ago it popped out in my mp3 player during some boring bus drive. Hellshock is a band that knows how to kick ass. It counts ex members of bands like Remains Of The Day, Tragedy and all sorts of Portland area karate-chop-kicking bands. The music takes its base in 80's UK crust: Amebix, Hellbastard, Axegrinder Sacrilege and Anti-Sect to name a few , but the speed is much higher and reminds some 80's german thrash and american crossover bands. "Only The Dead" is an LP from 2004 and is fucking amazing. Dark, fast, breaking, and the best is that for a crust record it's not d-beaty. The artwork is as well a master piece of Mid, veteran from UK's old stenchcore merchants, Deviated Instinct. The only thing that doesn't convince me fully is the singer's voice, but some actually really like it.
Dont know, I dont like the term "crust" anymore, which usually indicates bad bands, I'd rather call this a dark thrash record. One of the best ever, for me, can't stop listening to it. reccomended for fukken everybody.

P.S. Here's a link to a page with "Only the Dead" lyrics, which are in my eyes great.

BURNT BY THE SUN

new school is not a crime. this band kick ass!!!
i forgot to mention last time when i posted them that their drummer is the one and only Dave witte from MUNICIPAL WASTE , MELT BANANA , PHANTOMSMASHER and others...
this is the album "soundtrack to the personal revolution" i think it can go as their "special album". a fine mixture between hardcore killer beats and new school, post distorted breakdowns.

i found a nice interview with dave witte you can read it right here

enjoy
